Best Two-Player Games
Valentines: the perfect occasion to surprise and spoil your partner with gifts and special plans. However, it can be tiring having to keep up with the fancy dinner reservations and expensive bouquets. If you and your partner just want to stay at home and play some games instead, then the following games should be perfect. Don’t have that special someone to be with yet? No problem! Check out these games that haven’t gotten the love they deserve.
Snipperclips
Can you think of anything more romantic than chopping up your loved ones into tiny little pieces? If you answered no, I’m calling the cops. Before I do that, however, I’d love to present you with Snipperclips. You and your partner play as little pieces of paper in this cutesy puzzle game. You’ll have to precisely cut each other up in order to form certain shapes … or just endlessly chop each other up into oblivion instead.
Heave Ho
Hand-holding is among the simplest and most universal romantic gestures. On the other hand, (pun intended) it’s also the main gameplay mechanic of Heave Ho. You and your partner will have to put your lives in each other’s hands (I couldn’t resist putting another pun) as you swing each other to victory in this absurdly fun game. By the end of the experience, the two of you will hopefully have newfound trust in each other.
Portal 2
Although Portal 2’s main campaign is a single-player experience, the game also features a secondary campaign that’s tailor-made for two. If you thought the game’s single-player puzzles were difficult, wait until you and your partner tackle the co-op mode’s mind-bending challenge rooms while manipulating up to four portals at a time. If your minds haven’t been absolutely fried by the end of the game, outwitting Portal 2 with your partner is an extremely satisfying and rewarding experience.
Nidhogg
Unlike the rest of the games on this list that see you and your partner working together, Nidhogg will pit the two of you against each other as you duel to the death. Nidhogg stands out from most fighting games due to its breakneck speed and sheer absurdity. Not to mention, the game boasts beautiful pixel graphics that have aged like fine wine. Even though you and your partner will be fencing against each other, Nidhogg still provides some laughs so as to break the tension.
A Way Out
A Way Out is the quintessential co-op game. That’s it. The entire game is experienced in a two-player splitscreen fashion. A Way Out sees you and your partner escaping from prison as you take on a multitude of different gameplay mechanics and perspectives. Without a doubt, the game will have the two of you laughing, fighting, and crying by the end. A Way Out has got it all. Play it. Now.
